This Hideaway is a contemporary place and very suitable for people who like a bit more hustle and bustle. A lovely hotel with a lively restaurant as its beating heart where islanders also like to come for drinks and delicious (mostly Italian) dishes. Child friendly and bang on a beautiful tropical beach.
I continue my trip on surprising and tropical Zanzibar via the east coast north to Pingwe. It’s more touristy and a bit more crowded here but for a change this is nice! I visit an old acquaintance here – Nicole. I met her in Essaouira, Morocco where she ran a fantastic Hideaway (still in the LH collection). Some time ago, she left for Zanzibar with her husband Rachid and daughter Lila to build a new Hideaway completely from scratch, again in collab with a dear friend who runs an Italian beer brand. A huge challenge but the result is worth it… a beautiful, contemporary hotel with a lively restaurant as its beating heart where islanders also like to come for drinks and delicious (mostly Italian) dishes.
Rooms are located in cool tent-shaped thatched-roof houses with room for 4 people, 2 beds downstairs and a double bed on the loft upstairs. Semi-open bathrooms for the ultimate tropical feel and cool details Nicole collected from all over Africa. There are also a couple of double rooms with bath. In the ‘beach garden’ is also a nice pool (shaped like the logo!) for a refreshing ‘dip’ with loungers (a bit on top of each other though) and you’re in just a few steps on the beautiful expansive beach. Perfect for a walk, a trip by canoe or on a traditional dhow (sailing boat) out to sea. For some variety and ‘change of scenery’, there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance.
Contemporary and Tropical!
This Hideaway is a lovely place and very suitable for people who like a bit more hustle and bustle. Nicole is already working on new plans again, this time in Puglia, Italy… starting up new projects is right up her alley!
