Many people dream about quitting their jobs and moving to a beautiful foreign place to start their own hotel or B&B. Most of the time, dreaming about it is all they do, simply because of all the countless ‘reasons not to go’. The same was true for Hallie and Tim, a British couple who visited Portugal often to escape their busy lives in London. But when Tim suddenly ended up in hospital in Faro, their dream became a matter of “now or never” to them. Hallie and Tim’s plans gained momentum and they went in search of a place that suited their purposes. In the middle of the countryside, yet still very close to the coast, they found their dream spot: an old Fazenda, or Portuguese farmhouse, sitting on a fantastic plot, complete with old olive- and fruit trees and a large vegetable garden.
Five years of hard work went into restoring the old Fazenda. I have seen the ‘before’ pictures and believe me, it was mostly in ruins! But, in September 2012, the work was completed and Hallie and Tim opened the doors to Fazenda Nova, a beautiful and contemporary Hideaway with a tremendous eye for detail and finishing touch. Fazenda Nova meets the needs and demands of the new traveller. The extensive use of Micro Cement gives the farmhouse a sturdy and solid look. This urban style provides an interesting contrast with the rural settings of the Fazenda. Comfortable (design) furniture with fabrics in warm colours and wooden elements makes for a homey atmosphere (for instance in the Library, what a great idea!). The assorted knick-knacks, either collected by Hallie and Tim on their travels or left behind by guests, give a personal touch to the place, as does the collection of hats and caps hanging on the wall in the corridor. All ten rooms (7 Garden Suites, 2 Apartments and 1 Penthouse) are equally contemporary, stylish and comfortable: large beds, I-pod docking stations in every room and spacious, luxurious bathrooms complete with lovely and natural REN amenities. The enormous garden comes with a private terrace, and also provides you with plenty of intimate spaces to enjoy the outdoor life or your favourite book. Or you can take a refreshing dip in the centrally located swimming pool. A delicious meal is served five times a week in the onsite restaurant, where you can also enjoy an extensive and fresh breakfast.
Fazenda Nova adopts an innovative approach which suits these modern times perfectly. This Hideaway caters mainly to adults; children are welcome only during specific times of the year. Here you can unwind in very comfortable, tranquil and private surroundings. But don’t forget to explore the area, which will be more than worthwhile, it’s one of the most authentic parts of the Algarve. Long stretched beaches, the most beautiful city of the Algarve (Tavira), fishermen’s villages, such as Fuseta and Santa Luzia: they are all a stone’s throw away, as is Faro airport. Local Hideaways has found you the perfect antidote for stress!
