Suite Hotel Pincoffs
Centrally located in the ‘Kop van Zuid’, a vibrant and trendy new area in Rotterdam, and with a spectacular view of the river ‘Nieuwe Maas’, you will find a beautiful monument: Suite Hotel Pincoffs. The building dates from 1879 and is a former custom house, where ships registered their goods. It’s named after businessman, ship-owner and politician Lodewijk Pincoffs, who played an important part in the development of the Rotterdam harbours. Pincoffs owned the former custom house and kept his office at the Poortgebouw, or gate building, opposite the custom house.
Hosts Edwin and Karen, both former journalists, took the plunge in 2002 and created a charming and luxurious small hotel in this historical building. The concept is exceptional for Rotterdam, where you will mostly find the bigger hotel chains. The Suite Hotel has 17 rooms and still oozes an atmosphere of times past, impressively mixed with a contemporary interior.
Edwin and Karen gave shape to their ideas in a wonderful way. Not only did they create a beautiful entourage, but they also gave the hotel a very warm and homey feeling. Sidestepping the usual concepts, they have considered carefully what guests nowadays find important during their stay. Cosy and comfortable rooms range from Comfort, Split Level, Deluxe, Junior Suites to Suites XL, and suit every budget.
A bit tired of exploring the city, maybe? Not to worry, a DVD and books library will offer you the opportunity to relax in your own room or in the hotel’s comfortable bar, where, you can warm yourself at the crackling fire during the colder months. Or you can make yourself a proper cup of coffee or tea in your own room. The hotel is GreenKey certified, an eco-label awarded to companies that are committed to improving their environmental performance. This doesn’t interfere with comfort and luxury on the contrary: at Suite Hotel Pincoffs they were able to find the perfect balance. Their delicious, organic breakfast is prepared fresh and à la minute and is served in the bright and lovely Living. This immediately captures the right feeling: at Suite Hotel Pincoffs they understand how to pamper their guests.
I highly recommend a city trip to Rotterdam. It may have something to do with the fact that a large part of the city had to be rebuilt after World War II or it may be because it has one of the biggest harbours in the world, but there is something about Rotterdam. Something edgy and exciting that I would almost call un-Dutch. Suite Hotel Pincoffs is the perfect base from which to start exploring this wonderful city. But as is often the case in big cities, you have to know where to go. Well, that suits perfectly: the amiable staff of this hotel know exactly where to find the best hotspots, so you will waste no precious time in wandering and searching! When will you be going?
