Situated in the most authentic part of the Algarve, east of Faro, you will find a modern oasis of tranquillity: Vilacampina. You can find this lovely place in an inland small town where the coast is just a stone’s throw away. Equally nearby are the picturesque fishermen’s villages Fuseta and Santa Luzia and one of the most interesting cities of the Algarve: Tavira.
Villacampina is hidden behind snow-white walls and as you enter through the gate you are immediately surrounded by a beautiful garden with olive- and fruit trees. Sofia (the hostess) and her staff greet you warmly and what catches the eye instantly is the snow-white modern house where the 9 rooms are situated. Modern lounge style (Ibiza chic) is the pleasant atmosphere it breathes and this forms an exciting contrast to the rural setting. Definitely not sterile but very comfortable and light… lot’s of light, how pleasant! The wide corridors emphasize this feeling of lightness. The room I stay in continues in this ambience with a wonderful spacious balcony and a great view of the area including a night sky filled with countless stars.
Sofia used to work in the interior magazine business in Lisbon and started 8 years ago Vilacampina. With her vision on interior decorating she wanted to create a stylish and contemporary retreat in this beautiful part of the Algarve. Back then her modern concept was very unusual in this area. Her energy is infectious and she has a great team of people working for her, carefully selected. They make sure their guests’ stay is as agreeable and personal as possible with great attention for detail. From a bookmark at your nightstand, to lovely scented lavender sachets (with lavender from the own garden) on your pillow and a bottle of wine in your room: here you are truly pampered.. The highlight of the hospitality is the copious and delicious breakfast: fresh and sumptuous delicacies. The breakfast is served on the lovely terrace when the weather is permitting, otherwise in the cosy Living. Very attentive is the fact you can fill in a list if you prefer a sandwich or salad for lunch or even dinner, so you do not have to leave the property if you prefer. Vilacampina is perfectly suited for a day of laziness, for instance near the beautiful pool, on one of the loungers or in the hammock. A drink is arranged in a second, while the honesty bar is kept fully stocked. If you are in a more active mood you can alternatively take one of the bikes for a ride to the beach.
But I also highly recommend you to go exploring. The staff of Vilacampina can tell you about the best places and what local restaurant is not to miss. During the wintertime of 2013 the rooms will be a slightly renovated, so from 2014 it will be even more worth well worth a visit.
