Luxury stay
Food, nature, active
Off the beaten track Portugal
When there’s a big bar of Hermès soap in the bathroom and a tea menu, you know this is pure luxury. This wine and olive oil estate, Herdade in Portuguese, covers 450 hectares, so it is huge but it doesn’t feel too big. It’s because the various accommodations are spread out and all have their own style. This is such a special hideaway, very suitable for the spoilt international traveller who goes for luxury and (eco) top quality in combination with nature, Alentejo deluxe!
From the reception alias shop (Baobab candles, wine, olive oil, eco-linen tunics and more) it is 10 minutes to the furthest villa… with one of the ‘house jeeps’!
There is a choice between a double room, a hotel suite (100m2) in one of the two large villas with pool or a minimalistic adults only villa where the suites have a private pool. There are also two large villas, perfect for families and friends (4-6 people and 6-12 people) that are close to each other and can be rented separately or together.
Not only details like super soft sheets, thick mattresses and the Caudalie Spa distinguish this accommodation, also the enormous range of (outdoor) activities for young and old is unique. Horse riding, archery, a balloon ride (my favourite), wine tasting or grape harvesting, a jog with the owner; this is only a small selection of the possibilities.
And I haven’t even mentioned the culinary delights of the award-winning chefs. Such as chef Tiago, who lovingly prepared a breakfast according to my wishes on the spot. An avocado sourdough toast on the terrace at the edge of the infinity pool, staring at the rising sun between the cork oaks on the horizon… pure bliss. Alentejo at its best with staff who do everything to make you feel at home.
