Can you fall head over heels for a Hideaway? Absolutely! It began with the journey itself, a spectacular drive through the Serra da Estrela, with rugged landscapes, sweeping views and colours that change around every bend. At times it felt as if I were driving across the moon. Then, almost out of nowhere, this strikingly architectural building appears, home to Neuza’s Hideaway. It is bold and cool, yet softened by the enchanting surroundings, the beautiful natural materials and the warm colours inside. Simply gorgeous.
There are six rooms in the main house and a separate cottage with two more. This is a place you never want to leave. In the heart of Serra da Estrela National Park, Neuza and her parents have created their own ecological shangri-la, made with so much love and care. Picture a garden full of fresh vegetables, herbs and fruit, cows whose milk becomes their delicious homemade cheeses, and beehives producing honey. Here you go back to basics without giving up an ounce of comfort. And you are surrounded by the kindest people. Neuza and her parents will take you straight to their hearts, and the rest of the team are absolute sweethearts who go out of their way to make you feel at home.

Relax by the pool, or by the fire when it turns cooler. Meals can be cooked for you on request, and breakfast, how could it be otherwise, is utterly delicious. The surroundings are wonderful, and when darkness falls the magic begins: on a clear night you are wrapped in countless stars.
