Eastside of the island
This beautiful century old finca is surrounded by a 100,000m2 estate and is situated on the relatively unspoilt east side of Mallorca. With its contemporary view on agroturismo, this Hideaway certainly distinguishes itself and is a lovely place to unwind and relax. On top of that they have a very good restaurant.
The final Local Hideaway I plan to visit on Mallorca is located on the east coast of this diverse island. Nature is still relatively unspoilt here and there are many so-called ‘Calas’: beautiful small sandy beach coves, hidden between the cliffs. But this side of the island also boasts some lovely old fortified towns, for instance Capdepera with its 14th Century castle, offering a stunning view so that, when the weather is clear, you can see as far as the neighbouring island Menorca. The city of Artá, also close-by, is another must-see.
Tucked away in the interior, bordering the Llevant National Park, is a handsome Agroturismo. The 100,000m2 estate is overgrown with a multitude of almond-, olive- and carob trees. After a short drive along the small country lanes, I arrive at the main building: a century old finca.
Entering the building, I am pleasantly surprised by its interior, which, contrary to what the outside had me believe, is airy, sleek and modern, with some cosy nooks and corners…. A lovely mix of old and new.
A lovely mix of old and new!
The same applies to the rooms, of which there are sixteen. I’m staying in one of the two suites available. A spacious and airy suite consisting of two rooms , a very comfortable bed, a smallish bathroom featuring a hydro massage bath. The rooms vary from standard to double superior rooms, all in different sizes and some even with a private terrace. A separate wing, a bit farther away from the main building, features the even more modern junior suites, offering a tad more privacy, a lovely terrace and a spacious and luxurious bathroom. An extra house with additional rooms is situated on the other side of the estate, perfect for a stay with family or friends. This house even has a private swimming pool.
Fine dining!
The contemporary restaurant, where you can enjoy an evening of fine dining, is the definite showpiece of this Hideaway. The elaborate wine list includes several local Mallorcan wines. I had the pleasure of joining a special “wine and food” evening, where I was introduced to the oldest Mallorcan wine estate: Bodegues Ribas. An informative, lovely and particularly tasty evening with savoury dishes from the estate ’s cuisine, accompanied by some excellent Bodegues Ribas wines. I also had the pleasure of meeting Juan, who passionately told me all about his estate, while also insisting I try the almonds and soft olive oil…..both very delicious! In all, his wonderful eye for detail makes all the difference here and it is what makes this place such a true Local Hideaway.
And I haven’t even mentioned the spacious outside swimming pool yet, where it is lovely to relax on one of the Balinese sunbeds, or the Jacuzzi and the massage facilities….with its contemporary view on agroturismo, this Hideaway certainly distinguishes itself and is a lovely place to unwind and relax. Which is what I’m doing immensely here, while sipping a glass of Cava and watching the sun set and the sky colour a beautiful shade of red, all the while thinking to myself that I really do have the best job in the world………Psssst, don’t spread the word ;-)!
