This comfortable and stylish designed Hideaway makes you and your family instantly feel at home in a authentic Norman fishing village. Everywhere you look charming nautical details, which are selected with great care, catch your eye and put a smile on your face.
So many potential Local Hideaways in one Norman fishing village…there has to be a reason! And it turns out there is, for Astrid and Laurence, two strong-willed ladies who have settled here on the coast, have a knack for finding beautiful old buildings and restoring them tastefully. However, this posed a dilemma for Mrs. Local Hideaways, for choices had to be made……Which Hideaway to feature on her website! Aaaahh….difficult! But I was able to find something for everyone: whether you’re traveling with family or together, for only a couple of days or longer……Port-en-Bessin is the place to be!
Let me start by telling you about this Hideaway. I stayed here for several nights and immediately felt at home in this authentic fishing village. The apartment is right in the middle of the village and overlooks the beautiful quays where fishing boats are moored. With two bedrooms and a large kitchen dining room, it is perfect for families. The bathroom, complete with washer and dryer, has a wonderful shower and the beds are very comfortable.
Live like a Local!
The fully equipped kitchen is perfect for cooking your own meals. I would certainly recommend a visit to the local fish market in the morning, where you can buy excellent fresh fish and seafood….you won’t believe your eyes, so much fresh food on offer! And if you don’t feel like cooking or if you don’t really fancy fish; no problem, there are plenty of good restaurants around, after all, you’re in France now!

What makes this place a genuine Local Hideaway is the fact that it is decorated with so much love and care. The nautical décor fits its surroundings perfectly. Everywhere you look, charming nautical details catch your eye, such as the old photographs of sailors and the bath room amenities decorated with anchors. On their first night in bed, my husband and I couldn’t figure out whatever the phrases ‘babord’ and ‘tribord’ meant, until it finally hit them: of course! Port and Starboard! For the children, there is a hidden corner called ‘La cachette des Pirates’ or ‘Pirates’ Hideaway’, which full of books and toys that were obviously selected with care and great attention to detail.
Port-en-Bessin is an authentic harbour village where time seems to have stood still. Here you can still find remnants of the Second World War and the famous D-Day beaches are nearby. The city of Bayeux is just around the corner and the beautiful Norman countryside, famous for its production of cider and Calvados, is easily accessible. In short, this is the perfect place to discover beautiful, impressive and versatile Normandy, from the countryside to the sea and back again!
